Wing week brought my friends and I into Mighty Moe’s for our first time. First of all, the food is amazing!!! The smoked BBQ wings were finger-licking good. I had to get two orders of wings because that sweet and spicy BBQ sauce was delicious! Moe and the bartenders were really sweet and friendly. He told us about all the events coming up. The bar was really comfortable and you can tell their patrons have been going for some time. Would definitely come back!
I love this space. Great for local events! The location is even better, with easy access to the shops and bars all down Hawthorne. Moe is very friendly and welcoming as well. He hooked me up with a pork sandwich, which was really tasty. It's definitely a vibe I enjoyed.
A true dive bar. We came for Burger week. The burger was pretty good. The potato salad was boring (from a Costco-sized store-bought container). I asked for non-alcoholic beers and the server was very confused.
Back in late October, the door guy accused my ID of being fake because my hair is no longer dyed the color it is in my ID photo and refused to let me in. Wouldn't even let my husband, who he'd waved through immediately before denying me, bring me out a glass of water to sip on while we waited for our buddy who we'd been planning on meeting there to pay his bill so we could all leave, since it's pretty ludicrous to accuse someone of having a fake ID simply because their hair is no longer green. He said the reason why I couldn't even have some water brought to me was actually because he refused to serve me because I was too drunk. Considering I had driven there and had not had anything to drink at the time, this added insult to injury. The only upshot, I guess, was that I got accused of being under 21 when I'm over 30.
Anyways, I got invited by a friend to a DJ night next month and their BBQ did smell divine, so I'm tentatively giving the joint another shot. I'm posting this now in the hopes that they see it and the same guy doesn't pull the same thing on me again. Nonsense.
$10 Mac and cheese (added pulled pork). That's grease in the puddles. Pulled pork is very salty and tastes like the stuff you scrape from the bottom of a burnt pan (not in a good way). Hard pass. Only plus is friendly servers.
*Update*
Gave it another try and had the wings. They were really good! A little salty, but very flavorful! Glad I gave them another try.
Just got back home from trying out this place for Burger Week and man, does this place suck. Suck is used in place of much stronger language that I don't expect Google to allow.
I ordered the burger for burger week, and a rainier. 8$ for the burger, and 3.50 for a rainier makes 11.50 total, which I tipped 3$ on, and lord, was I tempted to ask for my 3$ back. Understandably, since they were busy, the burger took 30min, but when I received it, it tasted like burnt old oil, and the waffle they used for the bun tasted like a McDonald's pancake. Despite the rest of the ingredients, these two flavors were so overpowering that I didn't even bother finishing it. As for the rainier, 3.50 is on the spendy side of a rainier.... for a tall can. This was 12oz. 12 ounces.
The bartender was friendly and took my order well, no problems from her! But, man, whenever the chef would finish and order and get it ready to serve, he would loudly, like REALLY loudly, shout, causing me to jump every time he did it. Again, I get it, they were fairly busy when I was there, but the system of serving was basically "listen to the chef bark your name, then hope he finds you and take it from him."
Lastly, the atmosphere in there was godawful. There were like 5 barstools, two tables inside and two weird half-tables outside, and a weird half-stage that people just like sat criss-crossed applesauce on? Bizzare. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of dive bars and can hold my own in places like Scooters, Shanghai Tunnel, or Speakeasy Tavern, but this place was depressing.
I cannot comprehend how this place has a 4.6 star rating. Avoid at all costs, you deserve better.
🌟Great fiood..and I'm not a huge BBQ person (gasp..blink blink) and when I was there they had live music. I stayed way longer than I planned , which is awesome!! Great service and I even got to meet Moe when it got a little busy he hopped behind the bar to help! Clean, friendly, inviting little "dive" in a great location! Loved it!
Hi. Just got home from this bar and felt I had to say something immediately. A man outside this bar starts verbally harassing my friend for no reason when it was his birthday and I told him to be quiet and walked into the bar and told the bartender and some sort of “security” of what this man was doing. I go back outside and this man is still cussing and yelling at me and my friends for a reason I have no idea why. I again told him to shut up and he stands up and tries to get close to me to fight me. I am a woman and this man wanted to fight me for telling him to stop cussing at my friend. This man is being held off from other people outside and not anyone that worked at the bar. Why is there no security what so ever? I said something because I knew there was something wrong and I almost got attacked for no reason. This bar only cares about making money obviously and not the people that go to bar if they can’t help a woman from being attacked from a crazy man. This is not okay in anyway. The fact that other people at bar were sticking up for a man that wanted to beat up a woman is wrong on every level. Never will I return to this bar. Bad people and no security to help a woman from being beat up.
First time there,I came with a friend for house music dance night that happens here weekly. The house DJ's we're all fantastic, keeping it funky yet as bouncy as house can get. A lot of fun! The people were what amazed me the most though. …
